FD Diff Cradle

Is there anyone that still make and sell FD diff cradle's?

evo_koa 01-05-17 02:00 PM

Banzai sells a brace. Most have found it to be the best option.

Diff cradle

Rotary Performance also makes one that is a little more money but a little different design. I have no experience with either. But thought I'd throw that option out there.

Just so we're all on the same page....Cradle or Brace? Are you launching the car or just wanting to control wheel hop? PFS used to offer a cradle. It was heavy and encased the differential to keep it from cracking. They closed their doors a couple years ago but occasionally you see one come up in the 3rd Gen. Parts for Sale section. As Mike mentioned, Rotary Performance has their 'brace' Rotary Performance Differential Brace but it seems more like a cradle. Banzai sells their brace. Lighter, way less expensive and for my car, just as effective...and something I intend to buy if I get serious about autocross again. Differential Brace

SGTBLUE I'm looking for a cradle since I'll be launching the car.

you could also try contacting the OP of this who might have one laying around. It was an extremely well built piece, but also on the pricier side. Has the two extra "wings" on it that the RP unit doesn't have.

The HPP brace may have limitations on fitting with your exhaust pipe size if I remember corectly. I think I read that on the Ragan Rotary Racing web page. You could check that out as there was some good info on it there. Little hard to find but its were he talks about rebuilding the differential.

Thanks for all the help guys!

OP, what engine mounts are you running? Do you have the transmission brace and urethane differential bushings already?

Is it common for differential bushings to leak oil once they fail?? At first I thought my axle seals went bad but the mess looks like its coming from the top/rear of the subframe

Sgtblue 01-22-17 05:55 PM

^Yes. They're oil filled and I had one leak.

Good to know, thanks for the reply. In the process of redoing all the bushings, pillow balls and installing a ronin 8.8 kit. gonna install Superpro bushings into the cradle

Will a brace hold it together behind a stock ls3 for some time?

Depends; I'm building my car to drag race at the track and from what I've read wheel hop on hard launches is what kills the stock diff when you're ls swapped. I ran my ls1 powered rx7 a couple of times with the stock diff and no brace and it wheel hopped real bad once when it broke loose during a shift to second. It didnt damage it but I'm sure its only a matter of time before it breaks. I am currently upgrading my rear end with a ronin speedworks 8.8 kit so I have some extra insurance when I eventually change the engine.

With the Ronin setup, I noticed on the website something about combining the axles. Did you have to send the Ford axles and OEM Mazda axles for them to merge the 2? Also, is there a power limit on those axles/cv's?

The Ronin kit comes ready to go with a set of really nice axles that are 31 spline Ford on the inboard end for the 8.8 stub axles and FD on the outboard side so they fit into the stock FD hubs. There currently is a turbo'd LS roadrace/1/2mile car; 1000 Hp thats been running the kit with no issues.
