FD collapsible hub options?
 

Trying and failing to find an answer with searches. I want to get an aftermarket wheel (probably a Personal) and I will thus need a hub. I want to disable the airbag warning, keep a working horn button, and maintain turn signal canceling. I don't need a QD.

Looks like the Works Bell basic tall hub kit will do all of that. But, it doesn't seem to be collapsible like the Momo hubs are. Momo is also cheaper, but I can't figure out what I'd have to do to handle the horn, signals, and airbag light with the Momo. Does anyone know?

Alternately, does anyone know if the Works unit can collapse? The car will be used on the street occasionally, and I'd like to not impale myself in an accident with the stock belts.

I'm wondering why you are SO subsceptable to having an accident with this car that you think a Collapsing hub is needed.
If you have to worry about your driving skills on the street then I would not drive.

They are not called"I goosed the shit out of it and the car did this and I wound up stabbing myself on the steering column".

This is incoherent. What are you trying to say? What do you think happens to a body in the drivers seat during a collision? Why do you think airbags exist?

You seem to be arguing against safety measures at all. "I have to wonder why you are SO subsceptable to having an accident with this car that you think a [seatbelt] is needed."

Let me try to tease out a useful question from this, as a follow-on to anyone else reading this: should I not care if these collapse? Does this part of the stock wheel collapse? I know, contrary to the quoted poster's implication, that the ability for the column to collapse is an important safety feature in even old 90s cars, but I'm not sure where the "give" takes place. If its somewhere further down the column that is not being replaced, then I probably don't need to worry about a solid hub.

Realistically you should not have to worry about this if you are using your car legally on the street.You are trying to delete a safety feature and incorporate another "not so safety" feature in,which really is confusing.Even if you had collapsable steering,you would sustain some injury with it.It won't be as nice and soft as the air bag,and they aren't all shit hot either.

I have an 86 and If I worried about safety I'd wrap myself in Bubble wrap when I go for a drive.That car has Nothing..drive and pray.Hell even the whole front is fiberglass,no front bumper under the FiberGlass.Just an Intercooler.

The steering shaft is meant to collapse in a front collision.You may get a face full of steering wheel but that is because it has no joint after the firewall.
Also the fact that you are using stock belts?..Trust me,I hit stuff Hard,and I took the whole rear view off with my shoulder..Stock "safety" belts.. my ass.
I'd be looking at some restraint system to keep your body In the seat and away from the steering wheel.Let the Metal of the car come to you in an accident,rather than you Sail INTO it.

I think that if you were to work this into the car,it would have to be a custom steering shaft,and not just a hub.I haven't seen Hubs that collapse,just quick release and Tilt style hub(release that tilts wheel but the wheel stays on the car).
