FD Boost Sensor question
 

Hi,
More of a curiosity. Does anybody know what the plastic "damper" looking thing is attached to the boost sensor line? What is it's purpose? Do your FDs have them too?

The clear plastic damper/fuel filter looking thingy is what I'm curious does. It hooks up to the Boost Sensor also in the pic.

Looks like a check-valve to me. And no, mine doesn't have that.

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure why mine has it then. My boost levels look fine. It hits the 10-8-10 boost pattern correctly. Wonder if it is covering up some sort of an issue otherwise.

Most of the chain parts stores carry those little vacuum fittings. Be easy to remove, splice the two sides and run the car to find out. My first thought was a check (one way) valve. When you have it off that would also be easy to check...if you can blow in one way but not the other. It seems pretty large...but I guess it could be a (air) filter? :dunno:

Makes sense. As a start I can definitely check to see if it is a check valve or a filter. Hoping it's just a filter. I checked several other threads including the Dale Clark one about vacuum lines, and they state that having a filter there is normal. But the mazda ones are a little larger and black.

Will update the thread once I check that out. Out of town today so will likely check it out on Friday.

Stock there is a filter between the TB and MAP. Not sure if it's not also a check valve tho. Pictured is not stock

Some aftermarket gauges will required the signal to be smoothed out by a restrictor, so this would not surprise me.

It's a filter, most certainly not a check valve. Putting a check valve in there would cause all sorts of issues!

So it is a dampener/restrictor to provide a more steady reading. I'm not sure for what exactly but the shop here said that they have experienced weird MAP sensor issues before when that's not there.

I'm also thinking it makes for an easier read on my boost gauge in the car which shows me more steady readings. I'm assuming the boost gauge gets it's signal from the MAP sensor too?
