FC sticky rear calipers
So my rear left brake doesn't want to fully retract anymore. At first I was thinking it was my handbrake lever and the spring that were dirty/stuck. But I've cleaned it all up, fully retracted it and haven't used my handbrake since then.
Now my rear left still gets stuck. So I'm suspecting the calipers are dirty/rusty??? Brake fluid is topped so that's probably not the issue? Unless I have a leak somewhere... (doesn't seem like it) Can this be cleaned easy? Am i looking at new calipers? Maybe rebuild kit? If I am looking for new ones. I'm not finding much options/places to buy new calipers. Are these perhaps interchangeable? With for example MX-5 rear calipers? I'm just tinking out loud here  Or could the problem be elsewhere? Need help. My car needs MOT in 3 weeks  Thanks in advance! |
try Rock Auto for new ones.

pfft, I can't even remove the rear lock pin bolt...
No way an impact can fit in there, my ratchet wont even fit between control arm and the bolt.. |
there is only one 12mm bolt that comes off to remove the caliper.
Pivot the caliper up on the slider bolt and it slides off. If you have to remove the caliper then of course you wil have to disconnect the line.,But you can just take the 14mm bolt off at the E brake cable bracket and jiggle it to come off so you don't end up having to undo the adjuster on the cable. |
It's that 12mm bolt that is seized...
|
then you can take the whole assembly off as one.Bracket and all..IF possible.
I think 14mm bolts hold the bracket to the spindle assembly. HEAT THEM..if that 12mm was seized then likely the 14mm's will be too,and If you break those it is NOT FUN. Can you perhaps post PICS and let us see what you are going through? |
that was my next plan, get the whole assembly lose.
I will probably go to the store, get some vice grips and some 6-point sockets and wrenches, I've read 12-point sockets get your bolts destroyed easier... Is the rebuild kit from mazdatrix any good? I've read rebuilding the rears can be a bit tricky.. |
for the time and effort and peace of mind I just opt to buy new or remanufactured calipers.
..and personally I stay away from 12 point sockets. |
yea that's what I've learned.
Ok then, i've found em on rockauto im stil browsing for maybe cheaper options. Shipping is really killing me :p |
Try International shipping..
You'd wanna cry. |
it is international, I live in Belgium :P

Get a hold of a guy named HIGGI.(tell him that STYX referred you to him).
I know he is in the Euro area and maybe he can hook you up with a parts supplier. |
Thanks! Will do!
