FC Rear Brake Pad Replacement
 

Hello All, i just bought 4 new rotors and brake pads all around for my 88 RX7 Vert, after finally getting the rotors off the front i installed the new pads and everything works great! awesome! now the back im still on the first side i started, new rotor is on brake pads are off i have new springs and new pads and i even got the brake piston turned back in, but i cant for the life of me get the new pads in with the springs and re-attach the caliper!! i feel like i have already done the "hard" part... ive looked at some links and i cant find anything solid,

for now, all i can think of is make sure the little tab/button on the back of the pad is sitting in one of the spaces in the piston.

Thanks for the reply, there are 2 v notches and i spun them with a pair of stiff needle nose and its lined up, so thats not the issue, i had to step away for awhile because of my frustration haha ill be going at it again soon..

when you did the pad change, did you simply lift the caliper or did you completely take it off the slide?
either way, you may have to remove it and lube it a bit, sometimes it will stick and you'll have to force it outward enough to clear the outer pad.

the second thing i can think of is maybe the little dowel/spacer that the bolt passes through may have slid out and is now preventing the caliper from rotating into place.

I took the 2 bolts out behind the caliper and pulled it off, are you saying the caliper comes apart?

two bolts? are you saying that you removed the whole caliper assembly from the hub? you should probably get a shop manual. download the factory manual or buy a Haynes manual.

yes. it comes apart. the caliper has one bolt at the bottom. you remove it and assuming it isn't seized (which it usually is at least partially seized), you just swing it up (it will rotate on a slide). at that point the piston can be wound down, the pads can be replaced and you put everything back together in reverse.

that said, if you just took the whole assembly off the hub, then ignore my last post because neither of those scenarios would be possible. it might also make sense the trouble you describe.

Ok thanks, I'll be buying a manual then haha, I had the caliper off to replace the rotor and wasn't even thinking that it might come apart I'll try to finally tackle this and finish up Saturday :icon_tup:
