FC idle issue

Just picked up my first RX7 today. Its a 1987 N/A GXL in pretty clean condition. The catch on the sale was it not being in good running order. Hence this being my first rotary I only know some of the basics of the engine.

It starts and runs cold/hot and if you heal toe to keep it running. As soon as the throttle is let off the engine dies instantly. Even if shifting between 3rd and 4th to slowly it will die also. To me it seems like an electrical problem like maybe a bad TPS or Idle air control (if rotary's have one?)

Anyone have some special servicing tips that should be done also?

Thanks guys,

enjoi

Check for large vacuum leaks.

Check the BAC valve (idle air control) to make sure it is not unplugged or stuck.

Adjust the TPS.

Check to make sure that the cold start cam is not stuck, or that someone didn't disable the system.

These procedures can be found in the Haynes manual or FSM (free download from the FAQ).

The hose going from the intake pipe to the BAC valve was none existent, so once reconnected it idles on its own. I believe the previous owner tried adjusting the idle to try and cure the problem which messed up a few more things so ill have to go over that. Im going to check the TPS, BAC and readjust the idle. New plugs and wires are on the list also. Thanks for the tips Aaron hopefully all the kinks get worked out soon!
