fc??? or FD????

which generation is better?? please tell me your opinion, any thing, good and bad. please, really want to have a idear before purchasing.:icon_tup:

Aaron Cake 11-15-11 09:19 AM

Well, what is a better colour? Blue or red? Are clouds better than fog? Is Mike Tyson better than anti lock brakes?

Which is better depends on a lot of things. While the FD is a more technologically advanced car and has a better chassis, build quality and reliability compared to the FC is lacking. The majority of "better" would depend on opinion.

Do some research on both cars. Read and learn, as there is a lot available just with a Googling.

fcs4manila 11-15-11 11:12 AM

I'd go with an FC. I like the looks of the old style compared to a more modern style. The squared body styles looks nicer to me than the smooth edge rounded stuff. FC are just too awesome. But in the end, its just advice. Which ever one you pick; you won't regret your choice.
rx7's =]

They both have their quirks.

In either case good luck finding a quality turbo one that hasn't been beat to death.

DreamInRotary 11-15-11 11:37 AM

Love the FD styling, even though I rock an FB :) Hope to get one someday also

^Pretty much what he said.

I'm in the same boat right now. I want an FD b/c I prefer the styling, but finding one which isn't either stuffed or being sold for more then a new RX-8 R3 would run me isn't going so well. I got a list of like 25 FC's in my area for under 8 grand - most are turbos & in good shape, but only two FD's - one was 20 grand, the other was 29. :cursing: - and I could care less about the drive train...I'm just wanting a solid body & interior.

funkjaw 11-15-11 02:29 PM

FC will be less of a headache than an FD. Parts are easier to come by too.

FD is more "baller" and is faster by far stock vs stock.

misterstyx69 11-15-11 02:30 PM

Either way you slice it,you will get the car(so say 2-20K) and then throw 10K into it to get it "just right" for your tastes..
So the questions come back to you, what do you want, what can you afford, what are your intentions with the car,..Do you have a Stable Marriage??.(you won't later on!)

funkjaw 11-15-11 02:44 PM

I'll tell you why I like FCs over FDs:

-More roomier
-Parts are easier to find and less expensive
-Just as fun
-You don't feel as bad if you get a ding here or there or in an accident
-Gas mileage can be slightly better
-After market is just as good if not better
-Easier to work on
-More reliable
-Can be just as fast if you have the money... heck 10k into a 2k FC will be faster than a 12k FD
-They look just as good... although I love how the FD looks too
-Insurance is less
-Beating someone in your 25 year old 2000 dollar FC feels a lot better than beating someone in your almost super car like expensive 20,000 dollar FD

^^ exactly

I personally would go with the fd purely for looks, however they both are great platforms for modification.

*What are you going to use the car for?
*How mechanically skilled are you, do you do your own maintenance?
*Just a week-end car?
*Something you need to get to work or school?
*Something you need to get to work and/or school in all seasons?
*What's your budget?
*What's your age? (Insurance)

The real question is: how fat is your wallet? That's what it really comes down to

^this.

Asking a bunch of strangers a question without more info is kind of redundant.

A forgiving wallet is important, also

Red, clouds and no...ABS is better. ;)

TurboMR291 11-16-11 08:18 PM

ive always like the look of the FD more but i have seen some sick FCs too.

boostmonkey 11-16-11 08:29 PM

FD waaaaayy better looking.

cten 11-16-11 08:43 PM

The FD is legendary, I would be willing to bet there's under 9,000 left in the US.It has better handling, more power, better looking.. etc... just my opinion...

juicyjosh 11-16-11 11:02 PM

Wisdom I'm sure will be ignored...

It take thousands more just to get into an FD. Then you're looking at essentially restoring the car - engine rebuild, suspension bushings, miscellaneous issues, minor flaws, etc. By comparison, an FC doesn't have the FD's crazy vacuum lines to troubleshoot, nor the creaking interior plastics. Plus if you're concerned with smog, consider between the two cars how difficult it is to swap between stock form and [insert single turbo of choice here] given that with the FD you have to deal with that crazy rat's nest every time. If you're considering an FD, be honest with yourself and decide if you're ready to invest $20G before you're remotely satisfied with your ~300 hp FD. For less hard-earned dough you could have a 400+ hp FC land rocket and still have a few grand sitting in the bank.

chivpar 11-16-11 11:31 PM

Fd has been on many "top 10 cars to own before you die" lists

thumpgun 11-17-11 08:11 AM

They are both beautiful cars. I love all 3 generations of RX-7's. I sincerely would love to have an FD to add to my collection. Then I'd have one from each generation. But yes, they are still too expensive for me at this point unless you buy a wrecked one. And I don't want the touring model either. Plus I have other cars I am building and can't afford all of them as it is.
I really love the styling and performance of both the FC and the FD. But sometimes I am drawn back more toward my FB just for the simplicity of the car as compared to later generations. And it's like driving a go cart with a rocket on it. Very fun.. Makes me grin like hell every time I drive it.
It all boils down to preference of year model, funds to buy/build/run said model. And what you really want.

I agree. I think the FD is the most beautiful car ever made!

funkjaw 11-17-11 10:55 AM

A lot of good opinions here.. I'm just gonna go all out and say F@#$ it, get all 3!

fcs4manila 11-17-11 11:19 AM

F*** it! lol
Let's do it live!
funkjaaw is right. Even though I prefer the FC.
I still want all off them. You know, for science.

thumpgun 11-17-11 02:28 PM

I agree, I love all RX-7 generations. I have the first and second gen cars. I would love to have an FD one day as well.
I would also love to have an RX-2, 3 or 4. I have a 13b 4 port I'd like to build and drop in one.
