FC Engine Questions

Hey I just got a Second Generation RX7 last week, it has 65k miles and great condition. I've heard the horrors of what can happen to a rotary if not taken care of properly. I just wanted to ask if there is anything that I should worry about engine wise like apex seals or etc..?

N/A or turbo?

if N/A At that mileage, you really should have nothing major to worry about. But, for sure give it a GOOD once over. Check the brakes, belts, hoses, suspension, and a thorough tune-up (includes compression check) and it should be very reliable for you

If turbo, all the above, but don't be surprised if the engine is getting tired due to abuse, usually turbo cars are ragged on unless the person you boughtit from was meticulous

Rx7s are no different than any other car, just a little more high maintenance. You take care of it, it will take care of you

If you do not Maintain it..like a "pampered Wife" it will take your wallet.

But Iduley has the right answer..keep up the maintenance on the car and it will last you a long time.
It's not a newer type,Start/drive/check oil every 10 thousand miles type of car.
It's a car that will run correctly if you have the old stuff(like 20 year old vacuum lines) taken care of.If you do that then the old crappy Parts are now "newer" and it should treat you well.

It's over 20 years old and it still runs. The only thing more resilient that that is a cockroach. Honestly, what kind of shape do you expect it to be in after all this time?

Anyway, check out the buying guide in our FAQ and that will tell you what to look for. Also, there is a maintenance schedule in the first chapter of the factory service manual.
