FC engine install question
I have this 88 rx7 convertible (S4) it had a blown engine. I pulled the engine out without the transmission. I've rebuilt the engine now it's time to put it back in. Is it possible to put the engine in with the transmission in the car? It's kicking my ass here :( I'd really appreciate some help guys

welcome to the board. :)
it is totally possible to put the engine by itself. it might help you better if you describe specifically what's giving you trouble. also please include whether it's manual or automatic. |

yes. :)
one scenario is it may not be able "reach" the mounts if they haven't settled together. another scenario is they have mated and the whole thing needs to be aligned (twisted a bit). |

okay, now we're getting somewhere.
before anything else, how sure are you that the clutch is aligned? assuming the clutch is aligned, then you'll want to have a jack under the transmission to help align the input shaft with the engine. use a ratchet to turn the main pulley when you have the engine's weight against the tranny. it may or may not go all the way together, but at the end of the day, you just need to get it close enough to catch a bolt. |
