faulty wiring causing alternator to not work??

ok so heres the deal and forgive me if it seems long.... i have a RHD jdm (im stationed in japan) 87 FC3S. now i thought that i originally had a problem with my alternator not charging the battery but three alternators later and a brand spanking new battery and some magic happened. to start off the alternator was putting out nothing, the b post was only reading what was coming from the postive post on the battery and the car would die as per the usual bad alternator symptoms. i check all the leads that go into the alter nator and everything shot just as it was supposed to so i changed the alternator twice but with no luck. Now fast foward to today, insted of buying a reman alternator (again) i bought one from a local junkyard here in japan. installed the new alternator and got a jump from my buddys FC and it was doing the same thing with not charging the battery and dieing shortly after the jumper cables where taken off....then i kept it running with the jumper cables on and BAM the headlights went out BUT as soon as the headlights went out my alternator kicked on and started charging the battery. I took the cables off and let it run and drove it around and the battery is holding just fine and recieving charge, as for the headlights the fuse under the hood poped so i switched the fuse out and as soon as i did the alternator stopped working again (i had a multimeter on the battery checking the voltage and as soon as i replaced the headlight fuse the voltage started to drop again) them bam it popped again and vola the alternator started charging again! im thinking that there is a short somewhere in the headlamp wiring so im looking for where to start!!! addittional notes are that i do not have the motors for the flip up lights any more due to having a front end bodykit that removed the flip ups and now the headlamps are in a bracket and fixed mounted, the previous owner had some aftermarket fogs hooked up but i took those out and the wiring is still under the hood for both the old fogs and the old headlight motors... so maybe they are to blame for the short becuase they are not connected and some wires have been cut??? some help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Are you replacing the illumination fuse or the head fuse? Are the cut wires you speak of taped off and not exposed?

Had the same problem in my fc. Faulty alternator, and it's weird cause the wiring ground on top melted from the wires. Fix it soon, cause I was on the freeway in traffic, and my car slowly died, with the headlights turnin off going 90 rushing to the closest exit. Scary situation
