Engine problems... please help!
Hey I just recently bought an 88 rx7 N/A, and it ran when i got it, but the guy had to put gas down the throttle body, as the lines were rusted out. I got it home and started tinkering with it (put new gas lines on it, fixed the clutch), and then it just stopped turning over for me. I noticed my clock and radio didn't work, while all other electrical worked, and i soon found the problem was the main fuse. So i replaced that and it would turn over again. Now when i bought it, it would stay running if there was more gas, but when i got it home, it just wouldn't idle for me, no matter what i would do. Now i have replaced both injectors, air filter, fuel filter, fuel lines, spark plugs, and wires, and it still wouldn't run for me. It would turn over, slightly rev-up, then die again. So i did that a few times to see if it would actually start for me. But then, after turning it over a few times, it just wouldn't anymore, (again :( ). I also noticed this time, my clock and radio went out again. But i have replaced the main fuse, and still nothing. Any advice that will help me at least make it turn over again would be EXTREMELY helpful. And any advice that would make it run, would be even better!!! Thanks to all.

check to see if the AFM is plugged in..
it will start and die until it is plugged in.(has to be connected to run) and Advice>??...don't buy a car that doesn't run on its own,,you are ASKING for a Garage Queen! |
Thank you for that. do you have any ideas about why its not turning over?
|
check the cables and connections.
If the cable to the battery is dirty the car will just clicks (sometime not even a click),and not start. |
Check the battery, cables, connectors. Check the main fuse to make sure it is completely seated. If you follow the wires leading up to the main fuse you will see a little black connector make sure that is completely plug in.

Starter problem, ignition swtich, fuel pump - have you checked these?
|
fuel pump works, the starter was my next idea, but no, i haven't thought of the ignition switch. Any ideas on why the clock and radio would be connected to the not turning over?
|
Did you check that little black wire if you follow below the main relay? I've seen it get just slightly unseated and cause a no crank situation.

I'll make sure I do check that, funkjaw. And Yes, they are supposed to lose power when attempting to turn it over, but in the "on" position, neither of them work. Any ideas?

If you have power mirrors do they work w/key to on? |
The radio/clock do not work when the key is "on" or on "acc", but the mirrors do work when the key is on.

With respect to the radio, have you verified if the 20 amp radio fuse is good? |
Hey guys! So just wondering if anyone can tell me where a couple things might be located..... The starter relay and the flasher relay? Thanks.
|
The Starter Cur Relay has one plug w/four wires and is located next to the Main relay. The Flasher relay is located inside the CPU.
