electric fan install questions

i was wonder which wire to connect the ignition to on my aftermarket fan switch?? there is a wire thats supposed to go to the vehicle ignition wire. is there one under the hood i can use?? or do i need to go to the actual key and lock cylinder and splice it off of that????

thanks,
Brandon

By ignition do you mean a switched 12V line?

There should be one in the engine bay. Find a factory wiring diagram and it will reveal all the answers.

You can get one at www.rx7city.com

i just bought an electric fan for my 85 rx7 but i dont know if its the right one or if i need another part, like a mounting rack or something

u'll need a relay also. instructions saying to connect a wire to ignition is alittle misleading. it really means a switched 12v source(key in the run position, not accessory), which can be easily found in the fuse box.

smrtmark, alot of electric fans r never a direct bolt in. u'll need to create some sort of way to mount the fan, whether u use those ties that go thru the fins of the rad or fab so sheet metal to mount the fan with. if u search my ID u'll find pix of the setup i'm using. my fan is from a '93 mitz galant. i'm using an rx4 rad so i just fab'd up some pieces of sheet metal to utilize the original rx4 fan shroud mounting points for the electric fan.

so i can use the same fuse that goes for the radio????

i use a 20 or 30 amp circuit. the relay takes most of the amp draw.

You're going to activate the fan with a switch? Not a good idea. Read the link I posted.

But if you really want to use a switch, don't use the ACC line on the radio. Use a constant 12V line. Wiring diagrams are in the FAQ.
