EGR fix options 93' touring cali car

long story short I have been getting a random check engine later in the day and I took my car to a shop with an odb1 to check it. I just left there and they told me it was a number 16 egr valve issue. I pulled out of the shop and now I can’t even get half throttle without the motor falling on itself. What would be some advice I have seen some posts already about getting a relay to bypass the valve after removing and just making my own plate and sealing it off? Just want to be sure of the right options and of course I want the motor to run properly with or without the egr if necessary. The car is a '93 touring and from Cali.

thanks in advance,

Clinton

An ECU code for the EGR is a very common problem. Usually the issue is just electrical and not an actual function of the EGR, but the fix is to replace the EGR :). However, in your case you might be one of the few that actually has a bad EGR.

First check the code yourself, it's very simple. On the diagnostic plug by the battery just short the 10 connector with the GND via a paper clip, takes like 30 seconds. For a deeper explanation look here: Check Engine Light Codes

Thanks for the input Montego, the cars all original 37,000 miles aside from the ast I swapped out to aluminum one. I would have this issue before I took it to the guy who plugged into the car, but it was never to the extent I had after I left the shop. Ill try to diagnose myself when I get back home, wasn't the greatest send off for my only week of vacation heh.

No problem. Once you have diagnosed it yourself and verified that it is code 16, don't be shy about searching the forum and seeking help in the regular third gen section as it gets a lot more traffic.

FYI - For any new USDM OEM parts that you need, your best bet is to go through Ray Crowe and he can be reached at Crowe.ray@aol.com. He is a forum legend and no one can beat his prices for OEM stuff so keep that in mind if you choose to replace your EGR.

I ran the codes last night, #11 Intake air thermosensor (engine) and a #51 Fuel Pump Relay. Any idea with these, maybe the #11 is effecting the loss of power? not to thrilled about an issue with the fuel pump heh.

thanks,
Clinton

No EGR code then? At this point I would be guessing but are you sure you aren't in limp mode?

FYI- I strongly suggest you make a new thread in the regular third gen section as there a lot of knowledgeable folks over there.
