ECU decision
 

I will be running a BNR stage 3 turbo, stock ports (small possibility a MILD street port), and I will be boosting over the limit for fuel cut (and I will be running all the support mods required, ie. fuel and fmic and exhaust and such). I would also like some tunability. My problem here is that I simply dont know much about ECUs, and I know that bad tuning can destroy a motor.

I have a few options in the ECU department, first I figure is to get a FCD, and then run a piggyback fuel managment (ie. Apexi SAFC). I would prefer this way due to short funds right now.

Next would be a standalone, which would take months to afford, and probably a headache to install. Now dont get me wrong, I would be willing to get something like rtek or apexi fc, but up here in south-east Washington I dont know of any tuners in probably a 150 mile radius that specialize in standalones, or rotaries for that matter.

I know alot of people are saying to stay away from apexi safc, but if Im not adjusting it like crazy would it really be that dangerous? I will also be running a wideband O2 that has a datalogging setup that I will monitor via laptop/ gauge.

My question is simply how should I do this, Im aiming for 300-330hp and I know that alot of people only make that much because theyre running standalones. Can running something such as a FCD and a piggyback fuel management get me where I want to be?

RTek is your best bet at that power level.

The stock ECU won't give you timing control and runs quite an aggressive curve. An FCD and some kind of piggyback fuel management will cost more than an RTek and offer less tuning options.

My biggest worry is wiring. The Rtek FAQ says that all versions are only made for S4, because I have an S5 will I have to do something different with the wiring? Or is it completely compatible with the S5? Or is it just a chip that I swap on the ecu?

1 hour later: Got onto there website, and you are right about the price. I was thinking Rtek was its own ecu box where I had to rewire or plug n play into a whole new unit, but its alot easier then that. Thanks Aaron, I will be going with Rtek 2.1.
