Eccentric shaft front seal leak on FD

A couple days ago I noticed profuse amounts of oil leaking from the front of my engine. After removal of most of the equipment up front it appears to be coming out behind the eccentric shaft pully. I assume this means something happened to the front seal.

From what I have read it appears that taking off the eccentric shaft bolt and pulling the hub to get to the seal is actually very involved and risky. I'm still trying to understand how to brace the fly wheel to avoid damage to any bearings so anyone who has done this before I would appreciate any tips you have to offer. I am actually very nervous about attempting this since this is my first time dealing with the e-shaft.

A couple questions I have are:

1. In order to replace the e-shaft seal will the entire front cover need to be removed?
2. When the e-shaft bolt is removed will the hub come off easily or is a puller needed similar to a harmonic balancer on a piston motor?

The car is mostly a stock 93 fd with 102k on the motor. Still running strong with perfect boost and no signs of o-ring leaks or smoking oil burning. I recently pulled 224hp at the wheels so I'm really hoping to get this fixed with damaging the motor. Any helpful information that can be offered would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.

1. the front cover does not need to come off. once the pulley comes out the way, the old seal can be removed and new seal can be set in place.

2. it will depend. some of them can be stubborn, but i have never needed a puller to get one off. you just need to be very careful not to damage the reluctor wheel.

Thanks for answering. I'll give it a try soon, hopefully it goes smoothly.
