If you are talking about activating the VDI and 5th and 6th ports, you need to have a functioning air pump and the rest of the emissions equipment.

Now, it seems you are trying to "tune" the VDI & 5th 6th ports to open at your RPM of liking. The only way without having to buy the equipment needed for this would be to run an RTEK chipped ECU. With the RTEK I believe you should have control over the solenoids that activate the VDI & 5th & 6th ports.

Otherwise, the other option is to buy the appropriate RPM switches that they sell on summit racing which provide air to the VDI and 5th 6th port solenoids to open up the ports. There are a few posts on this and I am not too informed about it so thats as far as I will go on the RPM switch.

Hope that helps...

well on rotary resurrection they have a thing saying that ont my engine u can hook up and electric air pump and u need a vaccuum solenoid a air pump and hosing a a 4 prong relay. using this setup i can have my ports open at 3800 because as of now i dont have anyexhaust backpressure. no cat and free flow mufflers. so i was wondering if the msd rpm activated switch needs the module pills or not. it says i do but rr88 says they can be tuned just themselves.

If this is an s4 (which by your post sounds like it is), the easiest way to solve this would be to pay an exhaust shop to just weld a pipe into your exhaust to activate the 5th and 6th ports.

Otherwise, RR88 is usually correct and I would trust 99% of the things he would tell you. I don't see any reason why the module wouldn't work by itself.

If in doubt, contact MSD directly...

MSD RPM switches do use "pills" for the settings. They're also overpriced, which is why I bought Summit brand switches.
