difference in turbo 2 and N/A 2nd Gen
i am looking to buy a 2nd gen and i want to get a turbo 2, but they are so hard to find. what is the difference in the engine between the N/A and the turbo cars?

The short answer is that everything is different.
The engines share the same basic geometry but really the only thing that is the same between NA and turbo is the eccentric shaft and rotor seals. Uh, also the oil pan and a few other minor things. |
can you be more specific. im am trying to decide if it would be better to buy an N/A and turbo it or get a Turbo2 and fix it up

No, I'm not going to list every difference because it would be a very long list. That's why I only listed the parts that are the same.
Buy a TII and start with it if you want a turbo car. Edit...And read the 2nd gen FAQ. |
The compression ratio is different between the TII and the N/A (I think it's 9.7 for N/A and 9 for turbo). So you need to be a bit careful when adding a turbo to an N/A, it'll be nice for power but you'll have to watch knock.

Turboing an NA is not for beginners, and the right way to do it can be pretty expensive. Start with a TII. The main reason was mentioned: NA engines have a higher C/R (9.7 or 9.4 NA vs. 9.0 or 8.5 turbo).

1st thing you gonna want to do is start a new thread and not jack somebody elses. Second, in that thread be more specific about what model you have ie. do you have a 12a or a 13b. Good luck with the swap.

an n/a is a more reliable rotary engine then the turbo 2, at least from what i have heard. turbo 2 has about 50 - 60 more horsepower then n/a's and pretty much like aaroncake said everything is different. there are threads about swaps just search.

is there any difference between the brake pads on an n/a or a turbo s4? wanted to get some ebc green stuff for mine just wanted to double check really. i know this thread is more engine specific sorry =)

If the N/A has single piston front calipers then YES.just those are different.
4 piston front caliper cars are all the same pads.Rears are the same. |
Some models have vented rotors. Some dont.

if you can get your hands on a turbo 2 its better in the long run. You could always look for a swap, but that too can take some time and cash. And the compression does pose some reliability issues. does the n/a come with an lsd btw?

If u want to drive it right away find an n/a and run it while you look for a t2. The condition of the t2 doesn't really matter, just find one and use it as parts to put in the nice n/a shell you have.

All S5 TII have N370 code numbers on ECU and boost sensor
N/A have a N350 number. You can check the diff (TII has 11 cooling fins on cover, NA has 9) but the list is very long |
I am running a t2 swapped vert with t2 trans and na rear. The rear is lsd. Just not a beefy as the t2. Doi g the swapp there is alot of little things that need to be changed. But my is for sale too :)
