A dead 85 gslse is no fun, please help!!

Was driving the other morning and some of the dash lights started to flicker on and off. pulled into the local store to get some coffee and went to start it....NOTHING! The headlights will come on and that is it. Nothing happens at all when you turn the key.

Installed a new starter about 2 weeks ago, check it out with the volt meter and the solenoid and starter are both getting power. When the ignition switch is is the on position it reads 22.5 ohms, turn it to the start position and it reads .6 .

All fusible links are showing continuity. The battery was tested and it was ok.

Could it be the ignition switch?

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Electrical is not my thing.

Did you check the ALT?

Sounds like an electrical connection. Since you replaced the starter, I doubt the bad connection is at that point, but I'd take a really close look at the battery connections.

You said that the fusible links are good, but I'd go ahead and replace them. You can get the plug in type from any autoparts store (rather than the wire type that came stock) and they will plug right in like they were made for it.

You might also consider replacing the battery cables. The originals are aluminum, and they often start detiorating internally where you can't see it happening. Doing this usually solves a lot of irritating issues that can bother you over the years.

Good luck. :)
