Coolant Smell
 

Hey guys, New to the forum. I've received my 92 FD from a japanese importer last november. Since then I've noticed a coolant smell coming from under the hood (definitely not from exhaust). I figured maybe the guys in japan topped the car off/replaced coolant and a bit spilled on the engine and will eventually burn off. Its been quite a while and the smell is still consistent. No coolant drip, No bubbling from hoses that i can see. At idle , car bounces between 80* C and 95* C , no signs of overheating. Car has stock AST and overflow res. , nipples on the AST tank all look fine. I did notice, that even when the car is cold/off, the overflow res is way past the "F" on the "dipstick" . Seems like the car isnt creating a vacuum to pull the coolant back in when cold? Anything in particular i should look out for? Although there are no signs of overheating i want to be sure car is 100% for 7's Day. I guess next step would be to pick up a coolant pressure tester to search for leaks


edit- forgot to mention, when car is cold, coolant level in filler neck is right below the cap

Got to take the car out yesterday for the first time in a while and ofcourse no coolant smell. Still kind of odd that the coolant stays in the overflow tank, so I will still try to pressure test and siphon . Will keep this thread updated .
