Compression Checking
Been reading up on checking the compression on my 84SE. And I am confused. I have a standard compression guage with a Schraeder valve. I am not sure what I should get on each pulse. Should it be 30-35 psi per pulse? Then 110 for all three, with the valve closed so it builds up?
I sure hope so, if not, boy is my compression low.:( |
No, you should get (ideally) 90-100+ psi per pulse with the valve open. The needle will drop down rapidly of course due to pressure venting off. With the valve closed, you'll just be able to see what the highest pulse was (again 90-100+ ideally). Compression ratio will change the numbers slightly, but in my experience not enough for it to matter. I've read up to 120 psi when testing my 8.5:1 CR TII engine.

Thanks for the response, I was getting conflicting information and was not sure. I didn't check it right the first time, did not have WOT and had not uncorked the other rotar. I will try it again and see if I get better numbers. Did have the engine running before I checked, ran for about 15 minutes at about 3K, seemed strong. But then I shut it off, idiot, and could not get it to start again.
