cold idle, sometimes 88 rx7
 

Hey guys, A few questions about my 88 rx7 gxl automatic car I just picked up recently. It doesn't always go to 3000 rpm as I have read it should. SAME conditions in the morning but may only go to 800-1000 rpm stone cold.???? Any specific culprit come to mind??? Doesn't quit or anything, put in gear and still go. Has 60,000 original miles and has been sitting for a while other wise runs great! I do have other questions on other things should I do separate threads?? or add on to this one. There is a sensor which tells the car if the cold start high rev should occur or not and it is based on the coolant temp. If the coolant temp is not warm enough the car should not go through the high rev cold start for 17 seconds.

ok that leads me to a little more. The car really flooded on me once and would not start. I was checking for connections and so on and found that the coolant temp switch on top of the thermostat housing was loose. The round pin on the sensor itself.After wigiling and reconnecting the wire it started right up. But it took a while to clear out all the fuel,what a cloud. I wouldnt think that switch, I think its a switch, would of affected the cold start process. Could that one do that??? Thank you for your help. I do want to replace that sensor anyhow but the round pin one is hard to find, all part stores here are a blade type.

The sensor/switch I spoke of is located at the bottom of the radiator on the driver's side. The thermosensor is located behind the water pump and has two wires. There is a single wire (Green/Black) for a temp switch near the thermostat housing for the electric fan control unit seen on autos and some turbos. This temp sensor serves no other feature
