Clogged Radiator overheating
 

:icon_tup: I had over hearting problems an low on doe decided to get a gallon of muratic acid. Removed the radiator, heated 2 gallons of water and added 1 pint of acid. Then funneled it into the radiator. I figured that because many of the fins were bent, I didn't have alot to lose. Foam gushed out on the parking lot that resembled something from the garbage disposal. I let it boil for a couple minutes until the lava subsided. Emptied it out and did the process over. The fourth round the foam was black water that told me it must be nothing but metal being eaten from the interior. The next step was to neutralize the interior with a cool baking soda solution. Finally with a good flushing withe the garden hose. The result was a shiney sparkely galvenized metal. After reinstalling the radiator filled the cooling system with a 50/50 coolant and it was time for a test drive. Up Parleys summit I headed. The temp needle arose but not nearly as high as previous tests up the summit. The next step is to install an OEM thermostat and eventually the whole radiator due to the bent fins. All in all the acid treatments flushed out calcium and what I think was radiator stop leak. The process was not a total cure but enabled me to drive the 86 with alot more confidence as opposed to pamic driving with one eye on the road add the other on the temp. guage. Use extreme caution with all acids, wear safety glasses and use rubber gloves. More later, Magpie57
