clear tubes inside spare compartment

Howdy.

We have a 88 convertible, 160k, new to us and first RX7.

As we peel through it fixing bits and pieces and learning whats original and whats not, I've come across two clear tubes inside the spare compartment in back. There is one on each side, down in the wells behind each seat. One of them looks spliced and the tube is brittle and not very comforting.

What are these tubes, where do they go and come from, and hopefully not fuel lines?

Thanks in advance.

PS-searched already, have a Haynes and can't find anything ti ID these.

Those are the drains for the hatch/trunk on the FC.

Go to home depot and get some vinyl tubing. It will be in the faucet repair section. About $4 for a 10ft roll.

Just take the tube with you to HD, but I believe the tubing I bought was 1/2" ID. Its close enough, since a clamp should seal it up.

weird. Where are the drain holes in the trunk?

The tubes go through holes in the floor and exit behind the rear tire. Just follow the tubes with your hands. Without the tubes, your trunk will fill with water.

I'm seriously wondering about this. Do these not attach to the sides of the convertible top near the doors? There are two areas that seem to catch water . . . does this drain those pockets?

The reason I think this is because the trunk has a well at the back that is lower than anything in the car! so how could a hose drain that all; the way up by the drivers seat?

Which reminds me, what is that well for? The spare tire is anchored in the back. This is a large wheel well shaped area at the back of the trunk.

The spare does go in a pocket between the tail lights. It's a space saver spare, but that pocket does not have a drain. I have a coupe, so my tube drained from the rear corners of the hatch glass down through the floor to above the exhaust. I don't have a vert, so I really don't know how I can help more than i have. If you have the tubes, or at least had them in place. Replace them with the vinyl tubing. I had to oversize the holes in the floor a tiny bit

On the convertible model, the clear tubes let the pockets at the side of the convertible top
drain, The spare tire is not in the trunk on the verts, it is under the panel behind the driver and passenger seats, at least thats where the spare was on my two convertibles that I owned.
