Cleaning a filthy 13b
 

First off, hello I'm new here(obviously) and I just bought a 13b short block to put in an 87 b-2200. It's extremely dirty. The only thing that really concerns me is all the openings into the inside that have dirt in them(spark plug holes, missing oil cap, etc.). Is there a way to clean them without taking the whole thing apart?

Are you trying to clean the inside of the block??? Try" Sea Foam" I've been told works great for cleaning the insides....

Yes, I am talking about the internals. I can actually get Seafoam really cheap since I work for an auto parts wholesaler, so that'll be easy. After more inspection however I've decided to take it apart. I should probably check all the seals anyway. I'm nervous about it since wankels are so foreign to me, but I ordered an old oem shop manual so that should help. Thanks for your replies and sorry for my lack of details.

I can suggest a Way..it may be Messy but it Will work..Fill the engine's Internals up with OIL..Motor oil..Throw something inbetween the exhaust manifold and the Engine,so it won't leak out..then Roll it over by hand.The Pressure of the Internals will push the oil out through the spark plug holes,Enough so that when you Go at it with a Wire brush the Crud will actually Flow Away from the Holes.,and Since Oil isn't bad for the internals,it will lube the inside,so once you are done,you can actually Seal the engine up and Consider it FOGGED..(good for storage!).This Is Of Course if you aren't considering Opening up the engine..

Don't use seafoam. I've read that, that stuff isn't good for the 13b. I forgot why, but if you do a search you'll find out. I'd say you're better off opening it up and cleaning everything up.

You're the only person i've heard say anything bad about SeaFoam. Search in the FB section for SeaFoam, and you'll get nothing but great feedback from people on there. It's been used for a long time in rebuilds to eat carbon, and people run it not only through their fuel system, but straight into the mainfold through the brake assist vacuum line for a even better clean. SeaFoam is a great product.
