Chrome Flaking

So I pulled the rear cover off last night and only took of the rear housing. The housing looked really good except for this spot of flaking. I realize its too big of a spot to put back into use right away, but what Im wondering is if it can be resurfaced?

The picture is a little bit blurry.

I heard that once the rotor housings flake, they shouldn't be used. As they will always have a leakage where the chrome flakes are and you won't be able to get a proper seal.

This website might help you decide.
Rotary Resurrection home of the budget rebuild.

There are some shops and members that offer resurfacing services, i can't comment on them as i have never tried it. Search around on the forum, i hope i helped!

I'm taking apart a 13b 6 port n/a that I bought to learn how to disassemble. Maybe going to rebuild it, so that link you posted is very informative to figure out what's reusable and what isn't.

Glad i could help somebody! There are loads of other information and websites and resources on Youtube, i can't remember at the top of my head to point you where.
But i do remember Aaron Cake, My RX-7
I stumbled upon his website eons ago, and his website has some good information on rotary engines in general.

I want to build a 6 port myself, but i still haven't gotten the car yet..

I also have two books on rx7 and rotary engines so i might be able to help you if you have a specific problem and can't find it through search. PM me and ill look for my books to see if i can help you.

I'll let you know, thanks. Probably this weekend I'll pull it apart and take pictures. I just got my fb back on the road after the clutch install, new trans seals, stiffer trans mount, and man it hooks with the exedy stage 1 kit!

Cool, good luck! There is also the factory service manual somewhere online, that should help a lot.
Here is one link that i found: RotaryHeads.com - 2nd Gen RX-7 PDF Technical Manuals FC3S

By the way, OP, let us know if you want us to start a new thread instead of constantly posting on yours, or i could just PM Waldo.

Check out Goopy Performance for getting those resurfaced. Not sure if they can be with the flaking but worth giving them a call!

That housing is a display piece now. Sorry. :(

The chrome is totally gone so no resurfacing will be able to restore it.

Sorry about getting back so late. Spring break kept me away. Thanks for the replies. In this case, I may just wait on it and swap a t2 once my wallet gets a little thicker
