changing auto trans fluid

Hello, I have a 1986 rx7 GXL with a auto tranny, the fluid in it now looks more like used motor oil than ATF, so im going about draining it and filling it back up. I bought a filter kit aswell. I got under the car today to familiarize myself with it and then searched the forms and the factory servies manual on how to change it with no luck.
I was wondering if some one could give me a picture of where the drain a fill plugs are, aswell as any tips for installing the filter kit.

I have bought two gallons of redline type f automatic transmission fluid
thanks for your help

usually with automatic transmissions, there ISN'T a drain plug, you need to remove the pan VERY carefully and drain it that way

Yeah I always use the manuals from rotary heads, but it doesn't explain how to drain it though, I guess I will have to take the pan off to drain it. It's coming off anyways. You wouldn't know where the fill plug is though? I'd like to get it out before draining it.

if you start loosening the bolts carefully and tip the pan while it is still bolted you can get some fluid out. It's gonna be messy..(Hate Auto trans..hate em!)
I am gonna bet ya a COD that the filler is actually the dipstick tube,so you will need a funnel to put the fluid in there.

^this, and its practically impossible to get the fluid out've the torque converter unless you run it without the pan on, which I HIGHLY DON'T ADVISE. Just drain out whats in the pan, clean it up, clean up the magnet, put it back together, than fill it up

thanks, for the information, i dont like auto either, and it sucks out a rx7 quite alot, my engine runs great but it still takes 10 seconds to get to 100km. and are you sure about the dip stick being the only way to fill it back up? atleast that would be easier than having to pull the cats off to try and find a fill plug.

Yes, because when you take off your pan, you will see the dipstick goes directly into the pan, which is where the filter is, which is where the trans sucks up the fluid
