changed spark plugs and wires... now precat or cat is clogged?
 

Hello,

So I brought my 93' rx to the local mazda dealer for a compression test and sparkplug+wires change and everything reports A OK. 8.5-9.5 on front and back rotors... except that when the mechanic went for a test run, there was ZERO power when the turbos are supposed to spool... huge hesitation/buckle to the point the car wants to stall. this did not happen before I brought the car in this morning!

he says he doublechecked everything and determined that either the precat or cat is clogged (that's what the computer told him). i suppose this is a good time to install a downpipe, but is there anything he could have missed while changing the plugs/wires which would cause similar symptoms? please point me in the right direction.

If there's one thing I learned from this forum it's this:

Never ever ever take your RX to a dealership.

Don't do it, you'll regret it. Do a search on "dealership" and you will find many horror stories.

If you must take it to someone else I suggest finding someone who knows these cars and specializes in them.

Even better, learn to do it yourself. :lol:

I'm willing to bet the mechanic either A) accidentally plugged your spark plugs in wrong, mixing leading and trailing in some fashion or B) intentionally plugged your spark plugs in wrong in order to gouge you

Yes moving the spark plug wires around/using wrong spark plugs/incorrectly installing them will cause a severe loss of "go"
