carb rebuild!??
How easy is it to rebuild an 1979 sa22c carb?
|
harder than an oil change, but easier than rebuilding the tranny. seriously.
it can be intimidating, but it's generally not THAT bad. it basically comes down to if you can follow instructions, read a fairly simply diagram and spend some time cleaning small parts. it also helps to have at least a basic knowledge of how the carburetor functions. |
The first few timea are rough, but as the above post says if you can folow directions and have patience you should be fine.

Thanks imma problly start working on it today or tommorrow!

One thing you can do to help success is to take lots of pics or video before and during rebuild . Like they say it is intimidating at first but you will find as time goes on if your handy in the shop . it will become enjoyable and fulfilling to do this work your self . don't be afraid be careful and every thing should be fine .. good luck .
Cleaning is very important , the carb should be immersed in cleaner and done proper but a couple of cans of carb cleaner could do the job .. ( Just washing in solvent and blowing off is pretty much a waste of time |
actually to go in a similar vein of Gerlad M's post, in addition to taking good, detailed photos and/or video, procuring a dedicated work site is critical as well. if you can, get that white paper that comes in sheets (like at a meat shop) and put everything on it. you will be able to make notes right on the paper as well as it's much easier to SEE the small bits that you remove/disassemble. as someone that rebuilt a grand total of ONE Nikki, i found that very, very useful.

I rebuilt mine and it came out golden. make sure you put the jets exactly as the come out, I found out the hard way that I had the primary and secondary jets backwards and the car ran like crap.
Adjust the floats while you're at it. |

To adjust the floats, if needed. You want to turn the the carb top upside down so the floats load the springs, measure the distnace between the float and the gasket surface. The kit should have the specs.
If you want more power you can do a mechanical link to you secondary throttle plates. |
The floats should be fine unless someone screwed with them before.
