Car lost all power while driving
 

So first of all my car is an 88 5 speed n/a. One day while i was driving to work at around 7 am my car just shut off. My headlights were still on and my hazards worked. The car didnt make any noise or movements or anything when it shut off. The only reason I even noticed that the car shut off is because my radio shut off. I looked up right after that and noticed that I was at 0 rpms. When i turn my key in the ignition nothing happens at all. None of the accessories turn on and my starter doesnt try to engage at all.

I have tried replacing the main relay and i checked all of the fuses in the car. i also swapped in a different ignition switch thinking that might be the problem but still no luck. someone please help I feel like i have searched everywhere and cant find any good advice.

Did you test voltage/recharge the battery? If it's dead, you're looking at a charging problem (typically a bad alternator voltage regulator). If voltage drops enough, the engine will die.

There is a thick solid Black wire at the ignition switch that shares a plug w/a Black/White wire. The Black wire must have constant voltage to it. Does it? If it doesn't then check about a foot below the Engine fuse box where you will find two Black wires plugged together. Both sides of this connection must have constant voltage as this Black wire is the same wire at the ignition switch already mentioned.

My battery is still charged. I still have power to my headlights and all other things that work when the ignition is off. I tried jumpstarting it the first day and nothing.


As for the Black wires under the engine fuse box, are you saying farther down towards my steering rack? I will go look and see if I can find any

I'm saying below the Engine fuse box by about a foot. The Black wire comes out of the side of the fuse box closest to the firewall and drops downward to the connector. If the wire at the ignition switch has voltage then you don't need to check this connector but if it doesn't have constant voltage at the switch then you need to check the connector below the fuse box.
