Car dies after getting warmed up in park or reverse

I have a 1991 rx7 convertible. After driving for a while and the car warms up it will start to raise and lower the idle in park and reverse and usually will die or just keep idling like this. it only does it when the car is really warm and when in park or reverse. Any Ideas?

im new to rotaries so i would also like to see the answer...i read with warm start issues thr first thing to do is a compression test.

Well it doesn't have any starting issues, it just dies after it gets warm. It needs a thermostat could that be a problem? If not then what could it be?

Might want to test the Water Thermosensor reading at the ECU. The specs are in the FSM. The reading falls as the engine temp rises. The voltage reading should drop to about .5 volts fully warmed at pin 2E of the ECU.

with any car, the colder the air into the intake the better it will run. depending on how hot the engine gets, the heat of the motor could throw off the electronics such as, TPS, MAF. you also have to think that when things heat up, they exspand. so it could be when it gets hot, vaccum lines with an exsisting tear, could open up. and when it cools, it could close back up. take starter fluid and put it at different spots on the motor when its warmed up, connetions ect... and see if anything is leaking or idle returns to normal when u spray over a certian area. start with that. also, check the idle switch and make sure that it doesnt need to be replaced. check to make sure the butterfly valves in the trottle body are closing properly, it might need to be cleaned with brake cleaner and a wire brush bc carbon can build up around there and cause closing issues.hope this helps.
