Car cranks but no start
 

I just picked up a 90 with a T2 swap. It was running before I told my buddy I would buy it from him. The car sat for about 4 weeks until I finally came to pick it up and it will not start, just cranks. You can hear that ocassionally it will be right there than it just goes back to cranking.

So far I have checked:

Leading coils for spark: good
Trailing coils for spark: good
Cleaned the plugs up: good, there only about 2-3 months old
Checked the BAC, CAS using my fluke meter
Put a few ounces of motor oil in through the plugs to help build compression
Checked all fuses inside, found one out with my test light, replaced, still just cranks
The Main fuses under the hood do seem to have a little bit of corrosion in them, but I wouldn't think it would be enough to not allow it to start

My buddy did say he was having issues with the IAC and he was adjusting a screw on the side of the tb by the firewall next to the dashpot while to were trying to get it started.

Anyone have an idea where I should go from here?

its probably flooded, pull the 30 amp egi fuse under the hood and crank it over for about ten seconds, the replace fuse and try to start it again.

I have done that several times now. I have even gone as far as pulling the plugs and the fuse and turned it over with no luck still. I went through all the vacuum hoses I could find today and did not see any cracks. Also replaced the plugs and wires. Still just cranks. There are some sensors that are not plugged up and lots of plugs layin around since the car has no emissions, but since it was running before, I don't believe any of them should make a difference now

IF it was running Before.Then it is likely SO flooded that the plugs won't Spark.
Take the spark plugs out..Take out the EGI FUSE (engine bay fuse block)..Get a rag,Put it at the spark plug holes.,roll engine over and I bet you will see Fuel/Crap on that rag.
Now,crank engine with Plugs out for 10 seconds...add a 1/2 or Oil into the spark plug hole,and roll over 3 seconds..Put in CLEAN PLUGS.
Put the fuse back in,It should start up.

Went back through the car today, removed the plugs, and pulled the fuse. Cranked it for abouot 10-15 seconds. Put some oil in the lower plugs, cranked it a little, put a little more oil in, put the plugs and fuse back in, and it does the same thing. Its a little better but not there yet. I pulled the CAS and plugs, hooked the plugs up plugged the CAS in and watched the spark of the plugs. Seems like the trailing plugs have a lot better spark than the leading. So I am going to find a leading coil and swap it out and see if that helps. In the mean time, anyone have any other ideas?

did you tried using new spark plugs, believe you be surprise what a set of new plugs will do.

Yes I tried new plugs and wires 2 days ago. It didn't help at all

skaraider, I seen your thread and read through most of it to get some ideas , I'll have to go back to it and read the rest of the way through to find some more ideas and more things to test

Push start it, it seems to be common on rotary's. haha jk. I can always just pull the fuse, but it sounds like it could be your coil too.

are u getting fuel??? mine does the sam thing in the morning. i play with the gas for a min. itll turn over, then it sounds like its going to crank then it doesnt. so i let the gas build up for about 2 min. and itll normaly kick right over. all of these 7s are different though lol they all have their own mind. and mine never wants to start hahah

I've never experienced this myself, but I found a thread a while back where somebody had the exact same problem, and he had his fuel injectors cleaned/balanced and flow tested and after that he never had starting problems again, i'd recommend a fuel pressure test if you haven't done so already, and it would hurt to check the engine compression, but id start with fuel.

i had the same problem with my car all i did was put a new battery in do the egi fuse trick than i pulled the plugs replaced them continued to turn it over placed new plugs in than replaced the egi fuse and it turned right over but it was running on one rotor for the longest time than about 15-20 mins of running it, it kicked in the second rotor and now ive been happy ever since

I tried push starting the first time I went to pick it up, that didn't do anything. lol

I know I am getting fuel b/c I had my buddy hold the fuel line and make sure it was pulsing as the engine was cranked which it was so there is pressure in the line, but do not know exactly how much. Compression test will be coming probably this weekend if the coil does not do the trick which will be here tomorrow.

The battery is pretty new, and I have kept it on trickle charge every time I started messing with it, so even if the battery wasn't that strong, with the charger on it should give the ignition system plenty.

I may pull the primary injectors this weekend or next and see how they look and get them cleaned up if all else fails.

even though your getting fuel in the lines are the injectors workings!?!??!

ive had issues with mine refusing to start. i normaly hook it to a truck drag it for 3-4 miles continuously poping the clutch in 2nd gear or even pulling it in 3rd and itll crank up eventualy lol. thats when push comes to shove. as you can see ive done it a few times lol.. probably wouldnt recomend it. but hey some times a push start doesnt do the trick. pull start always works lol hahahahha.

have u checked the ecu?? if all else fails check it

When you're cranking the engine over trying to deflood it, are you holding the gas pedal to the floor? If not, go through the deflood procedure again, holding the pedal to the floor, egi fuse out, for up to 90 seconds. Make sure your battery is fully charged, squirt oil into the lower plugs holes, crank for 10-20 seconds, install freshly cleaned plugs.
