Can't retrieve trouble codes!

Hi I have a 91 RX7 and ever so often CEL will come on but when I ground the check connector under the hood and turn on key all I get is the light comes on like normal then goes out for a second and then back on and stays on! I can pull the TPS connector and light comes on then I shut the car off to check codes TPS still unplugged but still no flashing CEL inside like it used to any help would or ideas would great. Thanks!

Any one got any thing on this.

What ground source are you using to ground the Orange wire? Negative battery terminal, body of car, engine housing, alternator housing?

I have tried both with same results! It worked just fine for a long time then just one day stopped. And started this where it comes on when you turn the key the light comes on and goes out and back on and stays on!

You can make the LED light error code retriever used for the S4 and use it on your S5. There's no guarantee that it will work better than your current situation, but if there is a problem w/the idiot light unit or wiring to the unit then the other way of pulling codes will perhaps bypass this problem.

Is it a possibility that the diag portion of the ECU is shot that was my first thought?

satch 09-29-12 07:36 PM

Why would that not be possible? If you did as suggested or checked two pins at the ECU you just might have the answer to your question.
