can't put key in lock
Just picked up a FD with a rebuilt title due to theft. The keys will not go into the door lock so i can not unlock or lock the doors. I use to be able to put it in the passenger side but it wouldn't turn.
Is it possible to just pick up a keyless entry system and use that to unlock the door? Are the key locks rebuildable? Thanks |
If it was under a theft thats probably your problem, they door locks were probably jammed with a screwdriver or something. Keyless entry is possible on any car with power locks, but it costs more to get it and have it installed than fixing or replacing the stock locks

I'd look into getting all the locks changed on the car.
Put up an Ad and ask for the whole she-bang. I've changed the locks out on almost all of the cars I got.(they were FC's but that shouldn't be much of a problem.) By the way you are NOT new anymore so you can now post in the Main sections and keep this section available for those who can't access other sections. |
The outer key cylinders had small plastic "sliding door" covers on them from the factory. They were notorious for breaking off and making it hard to get the key in. Might be your problem. If it is, and you're old like me, get some cheater reading glasses a small pick and needle-nose pliers. It's a fairly simple job to pull them out.
Adding keyless entry to the car was problematic and IIRC, needed the actuator from a RHD model. |
