Can i run a turbo on a rebuild without ports 12A motor?
Hi I was just wondering if it's possible to run a turbo on a rebuilt 12a motor without any ports done I'm on a low budget and have a lot of used turbos to choose from around my location is wondering if a stock rebuilt 12a could handle a turbo to produce more power without porting?

I’m not a tuner or guru, but I’ll bump this...
Yes, you can run a turbo with an unported engine. It may not be as efficient or make as much at the top end, but as long as you keep boost at a reasonable level and have proper fuel with supporting mods for additional cooling, the lack of porting won’t hurt anything. —-> |
Welcome to the board. :)
I guess the simplest answer is ... yes. Porting probably makes turbocharging more worthwhile, but it's not a prerequisite. As long as the engine was built correctly (spec'd, clearanced, new springs, etc.) it will work with a turbo. The things you need to worry about are the usual issues like tuning, cooling, charge-cooling, etc. The part I sort of cringed at when I read it was that you "have a lot of used turbos to choose from around my location". Just keep in mind that not all turbos are suitable for a rotary, they have fairly specific needs on the turbine side. |
