CA smog concerns/parts
Ok so I have a 88 turbo 2 that I am rebuilding. Motor is out and apart. My concerns are when I got to reinstall what parts specifically do I need to pass smog? I would like to eliminate as much as possible for reliability issues but not sure if I can and still pass. Also can I have an aftermarket cat and pass? Car was purchased with the cat removed. Thanks for any help or just a push in the right direction

You would need a working air pump and a good Catalytic converter to pass.
Depending on what the Emissions facility looks for when testing is a factor too.If the car came with an EGR and it is not there when they look,it will fail. If you are eliminating parts from the engine bay that doesn't mean it will be more reliable though. |

Some where along those lines. Guys have will already posted their comments and you can perhaps work off their replies to help you along the way. |
Fairly certain California require all factory emissions components to be in place and working. How specific this is, would be information you'd need to get from someone in California.
It is a myth however that all that emissions stuff is somehow unreliable. When's the last time you heard of a component in the emissions system failing (aside from rotting vacuum lines)? Removal in most cases causes more problems than it solves. |
Thanks for the replies. I'll do some more searching into those threads. Its my first rotary so trying to build it as reliable as possible either way.
