Blown ECU and bad OMP need info asap
 

After reading archived posts, I have a few questions I cant seem to find the answer too.

#1 When the ECU blew, it took the OMP part out. I see posts where people disconnected the metal wire that runs from the OMP that's connected to the throttle? How are these cars still able to run with the OMP still not functioning correctly and the car not going into limp mode?

#2 When people disable the OMP, such as installing a block off plate, how is the car not in limp mode? Is there a way to bridge the wires so it doesn't read an error code?

#3 Is there a way to do something with the OMP so that the car doesn't go into limp mode so I can drive the car home?

Your profile says 88 Vert,and you are asking about an S5 engine.
The s4 does not have any electronics that run the OMP from the ECU as the OMP is all mechanical and only operates by the linkage to the throttle body.
S4's do not go into Limp mode.
S5's will go into Limp mode due to omp failure and eventually take the ECU with it.
You can't take the OMP off an S5 unless you go to an RTEK based Ecu or a standalone.It must have the OMP hooked up electrically for the ECU to see it.
If you take the OMP off the S5 engine,and run premix,the OMP must stay connected to it;s connector.(You would hang the "stupid thing" off to the side.)

the car is an 89 Vert I'm looking to pick up. The guy that has the car now was running premix. The car is $1000 with 79k miles. I was able to find an ECU (N353) and OMP for $225. I don't know if this car is going to be more problems than good. He did run it until it popped the ECU. He also told me when it ran in limp mode, he just disconnected the battery for the computer to reset. Is there a chance of engine damage?

No.
The omp would put the car in Limp mode and basically render the car undriveable,so any engine damage would be averted..or at least should be.
You should shop around more for parts!..you got rooked at that price for a omp and ecu,in my book anyways.Then again I am a Bargain shopper,haha!

That would fix your Omp problem,and as long as you run Premix( remember to add 2 stroke to your gas) that engine should be good to you!
