blower motor harness issue

Greetings fellow rotary-ites.

I have searched the forums what I feel is rather exhaustively, and have not found a fix for this problem.

My current problem is that on my '88 RX-7 convertible my blower motor operates only at off and full. The solution is not what you might think it be.

I got to this point, by replacing the logicon with a used one off of ebay, that the seller swears up and down that he tested fully. I am inclined to believe him, as mazda is in his user name, sold over 2k items and his rating is well over 99%. At least his credentials look fine. I replaced the logicon because neither my AC would engage, or the blower motor would work at all. So now at least I have two options off and full.

Initially my search on the forums brought me this topic on the forums, he has the exact same problem. Exact.

I thought then also that it was a blower motor resistor gone bad. Following the advice of that topic I pulled out the blower unit to gain easier access to the resistor.

I find instead as the other poster had found out, my car is not equipped, and never was equipped with a blower motor resistor. Instead of a resistor, plugged into the plug on the harness that would be the resistor was a capacitor, that was wrapped by the factory to the harness with that foam tape. The housing of the blower motor also does not have the hole cut into it to even mount the resistor.

I had the verified by the dealer. Just got back from there where I did show them my harness (then they believed). Parts dept even called Mazda to find out what was up. And yeah, some models had the resistor and some not. There are two diff part numbers for the harness for '88 one with the resistor and one with the capacitor, the think it is due to the IG relay's existence. Of course this special harness is not available anymore through the dealer.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this one. I believe that someone else out there has experienced this same thing themselves, and has been able to fix it. The original poster of that other thread and I can't be the only two in the world that have had this problem.

I appreciate any and all insights thoughts and opinions.
Cheers

I am in the process of replacing the power transistor on the blower housing, others have had them go bad due to techs probing around trying to get the A/C clutch to engage. My local dealer grounded the blower motor, now I have the high speed to clear my windshield at least! A side effect is my alarm system goes off when I turn off the blower. So if your A/C is not working, please check that the Freon has not leaked out first. Down the rabbit hole I go!
