I have a 1991 RX7 non-turbo
When i first start the car my wipers and heater/ac fan and controls do not work, Sometimes they will start working in a few seconds and other times it will take 10 minutes before it all comes on.
is there a relay or a central location for a connection I can check for this?
or anyone ever heard of this before and know of a fix?

Thank you in advance.
James

did you try checking the switches/knobs? i have a bad spring in my wiper knob that causes them to only work at full speed and my heat only works on defrost full blast. I'm troubleshooting a similar problem myself. always good in warmer weather/rain... If i figure out the problem i'll get back to ya and see if i can help. you can try checking the gen-specific forum for possible answers as well.

as far as I can tell neither system gets any power at all, I can not even ajust the tempurature untill they start to work, and they both come on at the same time when they do start working.

Any other In-site into this issue?

only thing i can think of there might be a short in the wiring. i'm no expert, but sounds like when they just so happen to touch the right way they get power. i'd check the wiring (if you don't know what you're looking for try a haynes manual or something similar) with a tester until you find your problem area. Sorry i can't be more help. I'm new to these cars.

Still not able to track this down. anyone else have any ideas?

8 months later and this crap is going on again. when it warmed up it stopped acting up and now that the weather is cool again its doing it again. I hear the damn thing click like there is a relay somewhere under the dash on the passenger side, but I cant find any reference to where the damn thing is. or could it be inside the ECU?

If anyone figured anything out on thus topic, please post an update. My car started doing EXACTLY this just this morning and I have no idea what's wrong. Only difference is mine never started working but my drive to work is very short, so it might not have warmed up enough.

Wipers or fan/heater or both?

Wipers and heater controls. None of the lights on the controls came one, which makes me think they weren't getting power

Later in the day though, everything worked like a charm.

Sounds like a possible corroded or loose connection. Is there not a box under the hood for the body harness? Might be a relay in there. Dont have a lot of experience with how RXs are setup.

Hey guys, I have a possible solution. I've tried it the last three times I've had this issue and it's worked for me each time.

To recap, on my car, sometimes when I turn it on, the lights indicating vent position (head, feat, defrost, etc) don't come on, I can't tun the fan on, any temperature changes I try to make don't do anything, my windshield wipers won't work in any mode and my sunroof won't open or close. As soon as I see the lights come on my HVAC controls, everything else works too.

What I found is, if I turn the car on and I see the lights aren't on, I roll my ignition key back against the stop. It's hard to explain, but basically act as if you are tuning the car off but don't turn the key over the bump that separates the engine on part of the ignition from the accessory only part, just apply pressure against that stop without going over it. This brings the control lights on and everything works when tested.

Anyone else with this problem, give it a shot and let me know if it works for you...if it seems to fix it for everyone, I just have to figure what is wrong and why this fixes it.

I never took the dash apart to see what was wrong underneath, so whatever is causing the problem is still there. The key trick has worked for me every time I've tried it, but it sounds so random, it might be specific to my car.

If anyone else tries it and it works, please post here so we all know that the key trick isn't specific to my car.
