Best way to raise an 85 RX-7 1 ~ 2 inches

Hey Guys,

So I see a ton of people asking questions on how to lower their RX-7, I was wondering what is the best way to raise the car 1 ~ 2 inches instead?

Reason being I saw an image once of an RX-7 that was a Rally Car and saw video somewhere of it drift on dirt and gravel, and for whatever reason that is what I want to do to my car 7.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Grant

best way to raise a Gen I? put lowering springs on it (boo-boom-pssh!) :D

all jokes (really bad jokes) aside ....

try again ... best way to raise a Gen I from what i've seen, it seems to be quite involved - at least for rally purposes - because coilovers usually get involved. check out the members: Whizbang and Peejay. they participate in Rally events. i know Whizbang has a few build threads in the Gen I section. Peejay, i'm not so sure about. i don't know what kind of ground clearance he runs, but i don't think he uses coilovers.

aside from taller tires and finding a way to cross-reference parts (springs, shocks, struts, bump stops, etc.) from other cars, i can't think of any simple ways. sorry.

Thank you for the response! I kind of figured there wasn't going to be an easy bolt in solution, but I figured I could ask anyway. I'm not sure I would necessarily compete in rally events BUT I do visit my grand fathers 800 acre farm that has a couple of miles of whiny dirty and gravel roads on it and I could see myself having alot of fun. As long as I don't hurt the crops I can really drive however I want to out there :egrin:

well, don't take my word as gospel. dig around some more and if worse comes to worst, then PM those guys and see what suggestions they might have. i've never spoken to Whizbang outside of a thread, but i can tell you that Peejay is down-to-earth and he's not a miser of his knowledge.

access to 800 acres? man, you are one lucky SOB!

On the front, putting a spacer above the struts and between the crossmember and the body will keep the alignment somewhat in line. you will have to adjust the tie rods to keep that geometry in line, but lifting it will cause bump steering problems. Another option is to swap in the 2nd Gen front subframe, get some long coilovers and space the frame down. The rear is trickier. You can install longer springs and shocks to account for droop, but then the watts linkage may bind or not have enough droop. I used to have an FB that I did rally in the snow every year just so I could get to work. The FB is suprisingly capable in snow on the street, but tooling in the weeds for fun, if you dont want to spend a ton of money, seems difficult.
