Automatic to Manual Conversion Transmission Bracket

I have a 1989 gtu with automatic trans that I am converting over to a turbo/manual transmission.

Has anyone out there done this conversion and have any pictures of the custom bracket they used to mount the transmission to the chassis?

I've followed V8Killrs post on how to make the transmission bracket for this conversion but the measurements are slightly off and I'm not too confident that it would work.

Looking for pics or any other ideas out there.

I swapped an auto for a manual. I had a totaled 7 and cut the mounting brackets off and bolted them to the auto car. It's worked like a charm for many, many years.

Did my Auto to Manual Conversion the first time around in 2008 using V8kilr's adapter bracket method. Worked well for the 6 months or so it was on there. For the record, the measurements he listed in the thread are correct. Make all holes 1/2" and it'll give you some wiggle room for adjustment

Later found a donor car in the junkyard and chiseled the mounting ears from it.

For a stock NA FC, the adapter brackets will work fine. Personally, I wouldn't use them for any turbo applications, due to the extra torque being placed on a cantilevered load (using adapter brackets) instead of a compression load (stock setup). My old brackets are around here somewhere if you want them. Made them for a S4 but it shouldn't make a difference.

The problem with the measurements was that I can get one side to line up but the other doesn't. If I place the A pieces on the top of the crossmember one A piece can't connect to the B piece because one mounting point is larger on one side than the other (there aint enough room). If I place the A pieces on the bottom of the crossmember, one side falls in the gap on the bottom of the crossmember.

Measurements aside, the holes do line up and I haven't welded the pieces together yet so I can still make them work by making a few adjustments.

But the real problem as you said is using these layered pieces for turbo applications. I just don't see them being strong enough.

I have an idea about making two brackets and going straight across (no cantilever) from the bottom of the crossmember to the mounting points and using V8kilr's pieces as adaptors to get the transmission close to stock height. I can make this stronger by making a separate crossmember on the back side of the brackets to complete a box shape. I'll give this a try. If all else fails I may take your offer for those brackets.

So I guess I'm one post short of being able to send private messages...well, I guess I got nothing to hide...so this is the message I was trying to send Akagis White Comet:

Thanks for the info.... very valuable. My buddy is going to help me on this and I am going to show him all the info you provided me with in addition to my idea. All options are on the table for this one. My goal is to get a workable bracket so that I can just get the car running. If I don't like it, I might have to try your idea and find a donor car I can pull the mounting points out of. The pieces I have are 1 1/2 inches wide and 3/8 of an inch thick fine ground I believe. Hard $$$ stuff. I got them from Macho Machinery up here in Cleveland Ohio.(www.machotool.com). I'll let you know how this works out.
