Area around shifter gets very warm

Hey just got my 1993 mazda rx-7 and i noticed that the area you would rest your arm on gets rather warm, what is causing that and how to i get it fixed?

Probably missing exhaust heat shields and/or missing inner rubber shift boot. Also, if you still have all your cats, they may be starting to clog.

Definaly cats. Mine were on thier way out, after a long spirited drive, you could barely hold onto the shifter below the knob. Cats went away, so did the problem. Have fun my friend :)

i heard that it's common for the center area to heat up. if it's heating up excessively, maybe check the oil in the tranny? maybe it's time for a tranny flush.

613nn: Once you deleted the cat, did the exhaust volume increase? I'd like to do the same, but not at the expense at attracting cops.

yeah it definitely gets louder but its not completely horrifying like a straightpipe to fart can or anything. just keep your OEM mufflers, or if you're really worried replace the cats with a resonator and you should be fine.

I still run the oem exhaust, and live in a city that frowns upon loud exhausts like yourself. It's fine, not loud at all. Kept the shell, just knocked out the insides and reinstalled. Let me know how it goes.
