apex seals...?

so i was doing a pull down the road and around 4th gear the car lost power and didnt run right no loud ticking noises i changed the spark plugs about 2 hours before and ran like a dream now wont run will turn over and wants to go you can hear a putter of the engine wanting to go im totally new to rotarys and dont know where to go

misterstyx69 03-27-16 07:37 AM

try this:Rotary Resurrection home of the budget rebuild.

Perform a compression test. If indeed there is an issue with the engine, before anything further is done you need to find out what caused the failure. Too much timing? Bad injector? Twice factory boost on a 200K mile engine?

This will help you perform a simple compression test:
Is My Engine Blown?

did a compression test rear had 180 all around and front had 20 all round. If its a cracked block/rotor how well do sr20s work in the fc and if its a gasket/seal ill be rebuilding

7krayziboi 03-27-16 04:58 PM

180 is pretty high... and 20 is pretty low ,
your front rotor & housing might be toasted...might have to add that the the rebuild list

on the side note , are you sure you put back the spark plug wire to the right place....

Kurtis Freisinger 03-27-16 05:01 PM

yes positive but if i have a cracked rotor housing id say frigg it see how much a sr20 build would be

You will never know for sure until it's opened up, but considering metal is incompressible, most likely. Prepare for the worst.

And BTW, please don't give up on the rotary just because you don't want to rebuilt it. You want an SR, get an s-chassis. There's too many of these cars being swapped because people are afraid of the rotary and its reputation. I promise you, you drive a properly running rotary and you'll instantly know there's nothing else like it.

misterstyx69 04-04-16 12:36 AM

Yep..nothing like a Good running Rotary.
If you look up top 10 Ultimate Must haves for Men..it is tied at #1..with SEX..and Beer..and Rock and Roll!

The Upside of a rebuild/engine replacement is having the NEW engine in and having it work great!..
THAT Moment will bring you right back to why you bought the car and why you insisted on throwing money at it!

..again.. a feeling..TIED at #1...with ...(you get the drift!)

was wondering if anyone has any good sources for motors if mines done buggered or if anyone has ever dealt with jdm california since they apparently have some in a 13b re from 88-91 in stock (also has to be turbo S5)

misterstyx69 04-06-16 07:47 AM

If you buy online shit it is just that..Unless you know the company and people personally I wouldn't trust them as far as you could throw your old engine.
Look up Force Fed racing.(Canadian,I believe)...and Rx7 Specialties.

also you could register at west coast rotary and see if anyone on the forum there can help you source an engine. It's a BC based Club.

7krayziboi 04-06-16 09:58 AM

^agree , you shouldn't have problem finding one so near to the sea

93_2jz_fd 04-09-16 02:07 PM

mazmart out here in atlanta is really good for motor rebuilds!

Takahashi808 05-07-16 09:00 AM

you can just replace the housings! there are new ones available

Boostcraver 06-07-16 09:56 AM
