Apex seal slot clearancing?

Hey guys quick question regarding the apex slot gap, i see a lot of people talking about closing the gap on their rotors using a mallet. However my slot is just a pinch tighter than I would like to see it. I can fit an oem apex seal in the rotor but it is fairly tight and doesnt have very much wiggle room. Is this something i can file a few thou into or am i in need of a new rotor?

Never seen a seal groove get smaller over time and with wear. Are you certain it's clean? Is this an OEM seal?

Yeah its clean, this particular rotor had a seal break on it and i think it must have pinched the rotor somehow. i may keep my eyes open for another rotor afterall.

I was also able to find a few people talking about rather than file the rotor i should file the seal down instead so i may try that out too before condemning the rotor.

Well that explains it doesn’t it.
I would not file the seal personally. I wouldn’t file the rotor either. At least on FDs the rotors carry individual stamped letter designations to indicate weight. They must stay within two letters. I would replace the rotor with one within that spec balance or source a matching letter spec set.

For sure I actually took the rotor to a local shop around here and they basically said the same thing BUT the guy took about 3 minutes and filed the edge of the rotor slot and said there was a burr but he gave no guarantee and still recommended replacement. So thats what I'm gonna be looking for now.

Thanks!
