Anyone have problems with the stereo kit for an FC

the stereo surround acts like it doesn't want to fit with the kit.

What year? If it's an S5 ('89'-92), the surround fits very tightly around the generic stereo kits. You'll probably have to file down some of the metal on the piece that holds the headunit.

If it's an S4, you shouldn't have a tight fit problem, but you will likely have gaps on the side that need to be filled.

i had to file the edges down on my fd to get mine snug

when you say you filed down the edges are you talkin about the tabs that screw in on the side? I have an 87.

The metal enclosure had to be filed down on the edges for use with an S5 surround. But if you have an S4 (and the S4 surround), it shouldn't require any modification. Maybe you have a different kit that I do.

I have a crappy Metra brand multi kit. I've had a few and the've all broken while I iddnt have the dash surround so I was hoping with a new one it wouldnt break but it broke while i was putting it together.

All those plastic POS kits suck, they never fit right!

I was quite successful with my 86 using a plastic kit; I think it was Metra. I glued the pieces together, rather than relying on screws, and I did some minor modifications with a Dremel. It's solid as a rock, looks factory.

i went out and bought another metra kit again, im hoping that his one will work but it wont be in till friday. ill have to post a pic of how i got it rigged up to hold the stereo till then. haha.

i just bought one and it fit great.. just had to squeeze the stereo into the radio garnish but no modifications done or any dremel work done... and it fits and looks great... got mine off ebay pretty cheap.. i suggest to be careful when installing and cutting the extra tabs off.. the metra ones are really flimsy and easy to break

This is what it looks like while waiting for the kit
