Anyone ever try welding sunroof cable ?
I have a 87 Rx-7 with a broken sunroof cable...I plan to pull the unit out of the car..and once the copper tubes are cleaned out as well as the tracks and everything else...I was hoping to weld the broken cable (TIG) or MIG...together...and safe a lot of $$$...I could also just braze it ..it's broken near the sunroof from what I can see...( haven't removed the assembly yet).
I'd hate to have to pay $$$ just for a sunroof cable... Anyone ever been able to find an aftermarket cable that can be recrimped... I can't believe that the manufacturer makes different cable and they have to build for many companies...maybe just the length that changes...Cutting it would be easy.. I'm seing a lot of aftermarket cables for Mercedes that look similar..might have to try and get one from a scrap yard same years and give it a try.. |
Never tried, but guessing the heat would screw with the strength and it would just break again...and you'd have to pull it out again. I think the alternatives you mentioned would be worth exploring more.

I read somewhere ( Pretty sure it's a post on here somewhere..)that Webasto from Germany might be the manufacturer of the sunroofs on the FC's And the sunroof motor is stamped Webasto.. |
I'd just Opt to post an ad in the CDN FS section, Dad.
I almost posted that I had a spare assembly without motor,bu half way through I remembered I gave it away with the car I sold to clear some parts out. IF I spy another one,I'll let ya know, you can have it if so..Free. |
