Air pump Vibration.

Ok so the title says it all. I have a 88 Rx7 convertible.

I have had this Vibration in 5k rpms and 6k rpms i had no idea what it was so i started where i thought the most common would be. The pulley systems for the drive belts.

I took off all the belts and ran the car and there was no vibration at all.
So i narrowed it down to the pulleys.
Then i started to put one belt on at a time and tested the car by running it again.
So to shorten this put it turned out to be my Air pump pulley, it made no noise or squealing.

So i'm running the car without the pump on.

Can anyone tell me more about this pump is it belt driven only and is there suppose to be an electrical connector that goes to it.

I do know its for smog purpose's but will this have any effect on my car and should i plug the pump wholes?

Thanks guys

The air pump is purely mechanical. You can remove it if smog tests are not a concern, but you'll need to either get a double sheave alternator pulley or a "yoohoo belt" to get more contact on the water pump pulley. With the air pump belt removed, the water pump can slip. The easier route would be to just buy a used or reman pump.
