Aftermarket HID kit causes radio buzz
Hi Guys,
I bought my rx7 second hand and it was fitted with an aftermarket HID fog light kit. The issue is any time i turn them on they interfere with the eadio signal and cause a crackling noise. I am considering installing a relay and wiring the lights straight to the battery. However before I do this I wanted to know if others have had success doing this or if there is an easier option. Thanks |
On my FC I had 2 relays.
One for LO and One for HI. Now since the FC headlight switch is prone to burning out and that any alterations in excessive power would most likely Fry the switch I used the Headlight connector BUT I used it only to power the relay itself. The Power for the lights were taken from the battery. You did not state the Series of car that you have But in my opinion I would try the relay. My guess is that the ballast from the HID unit is giving you radio interference. |
I used to see this all the time in my previous life as a mobile electronics installer. It's just the cheap HID kit. They would cause all sorts of issues, including high frequency noise in the cabin. Ditch it.

+1 on a relay. Next would be trying a ground loop noise isolator

*do you have an aftermarket deck too? |
You could always try to insulate the HID kit wires and see if that helps.

Thanks guys. I will try the relay option and if it fails will get a better quality kit.

I'm serious about the ground loop isolator. Search it
