94 Rx7 Fuel injector diffuser removal.
I pulled my primary and secondary fuel injectors out and got them cleaned by RC engineering and I was wondering if there was any trick to pulling out the diffusers underneath the injectors? They seemed extremely stiff and extremely fragile.
I know that the secondary fuel injector diffusers have an O-ring that needs to be replaced according to the FSM. Should I just replace all four diffusers while I have everything apart? |
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...s-out-1070352/ I’ve never pulled them with the engine in the car. Honestly I think as long as you leave them alone there’s little chance for issue. And change them when the engine is apart. |
YMMV, but I was able to get mine out with minimal drama.
The primary and secondary diffusers are a little different. I remember the wedge shaped ones for the primaries being really fun to get out. The secondaries were much easier, as they had a lip that I could gently pull/pry on until they popped out. For the primaries, you'll either have to find a way to push them out from inside the engine, or fashion a hooked shaped thing to gently pull them out with. You have to be patient and careful taking them out, they can/will crack/shatter if you try to strong arm them, and that would be a bad time. I don't think I had to do this, but if you clean the area, spraying some lubricant might help loosen them up. I think its the seal from the old orings that keep them stuck in there. |
As mentioned the secondary one will come out with a pryer, I would leave the primary one alone unless you have the LIM off, then you can just pop them out from underneath via the intake port. I have 2 extremely low mile secondary diffuser for sale if you are interested. |
