93 TT RX-7 RPM problem

Hello, I'm new to this forum and like everyone else I have an issue with my RX-7 and I'm looking for a solution. Basically, when my car is in drive it will not accelerate past 3000 rpm's. It is an automatic and a rebuilt engine was recently installed and I have put 1000 miles on the new engine. The car will accelerate up to 2500 rpm's then jump up to 3000 and jump back down to 2500 over and over again. Trying to figure out why this is happening, any suggestions?

Sounds like a transmission problem, if it's "jumping" from 2500 to 3000.

REally sounds like a Limp mode problem. Is the check engine light on?

Check engine light is not on right now although it was at one point. I checked my fuel filter and it appears clean at least enough not to cause this problem. I believe one of my sensors (the water sensor) is not working properly, not sure if that would cause this. I was also thinking it may be a build up in my catalytic converters??

When it accelerates, does it accelerate hard?

Do you have a boost gauge? If so, what is it reading?
