93 RX7 Dynamat?
 

Curious to see what everyone thinks about using Dynamat sound deadening or other off brand sound deadening in the cab to restrict some heat, help with vibration, and to quiet the cabin down...
With all mods there are going to be pros and cons, in this case it would be an exchange between comfort and weight. Keep in mind its not a dedicated track car, but do you think the weight gain is worth the extra comfort or money?

I used lizard skin on a previous car. 1jz 240sx, the down pipe went right under the pedals and it got HOT. Lizard skin worked pretty well for heat. I cant comment on noise since the the exhaust was just too loud in general.

I've heard good reviews on the Lizard Skin spray on coating. How well did it keep the heat down and how user friendly is it? Id like to go with something that covers all 3 heat, vibration, and sound if I can but Lizard Skin is still on the table.

If it's getting hot in your RX-7, chances are the shift boots are either torn or turning to concrete. It's pretty common. I had to replace mine a couple years ago for the same reason.

The good news is the parts aren't too expensive and it's easy to fix by yourself.

Also the cars interior is stripped out for new carpet and Brides so before I went and installed everything I figured now is the time, if ever, to do some sounds and heat proofing.

I have some dynamat along with spray-on undercoating in the doors and dynamat under the hatch carpeting, behind rear speakers and in the spare tire well. Noticeable difference in the doors especially when I replaced speakers.

If you don't track weight shouldn't be a big issue. Even if you do a few HPDE events just add some fiber to your diet a day ahead and it's a wash. :)

My friend just got done spraying lizard skin on the underside of his FD. The interior was already done with lizard skin by the painter and tinted with the exterior color. He decided to do the underside himself and once he got the gun set up right it only took a couple hours to do the whole underside. Its water based so if you need to thin it you just add a small amount of water.

After digging around the Lizard Skin looks like a great option for the underbody of the car... Couple it with some Dynamat in the interior and I think ill be happy. Do you know what size tip he used in his gun to spray?

Just to throw this out there.. I heard that if you dynomat your doors, it will give it a nice modern day car like "thump" or whatever you wanna call it, when you close your doors..instead of a tin can sound lol.

With the doors, IMO, there are two things that give it that nice solid sound on closing and doesn't take any of the heavy mats. In the door is that crash bar/anti-intrusion bar...whatever you want to call it. Between the bar and the sheet metal skin of the door they put a caulk just like you see between the braces and the hood skin. Mine had separated and the car at that time was less than 10 yrs old. I replaced it with silicone caulk and then just used the rattle-can spray undercoating/sound deadener. Still working a charm all these years later.

I've used a number of products in the past with great results. I just bought an FD and I'm planning to sound deaden it too. That said, I've been reading a lot about Frost King duct insulation, that you can buy at Lowes. It's not the tar based roofing material most people say to avoid. For $20 for 15sq ft, you might want to look into using that.

First I've heard about the Frost King product but with a price like that its hard not to give it a shot...

Look up Heatshield Products - its a company in the USA I believe. I ordered some of their lightweight sound deadening ... you heat it up and mold it to the car kind of like a vinyl wrap (but its stiffer). Seems to be a good contrast between light weight and function.
